Object Types Commented
From Vectorlab
Below a commentable list of all object types found in VectorWorks. You are invited to add comments or fill in missing values.
You can decide to sign up your comments or not. The choice is up to you. Please do date them, though, because it is relevant for the validity of the comments in the long run. Paste the following at the end of your comment, after a double carriage return:
- signature with date: paste --~~~~
- only date: paste this line {{subst:YMD}}
The little script below is a funny joke. Go till the end of it and you'll have some nice Object Types description.
PROCEDURE xxxxx; VAR s, s2 : STRING; i : INTEGER; BEGIN i := IntDialog('Enter an Object type flag between 2 and 128', '1'); IF i < 2 THEN BEGIN GetResourceString(s, 600, 26); AlrtDialog(Concat(s, Chr(13), ' Just had to tell you.')); END ELSE IF i > 128 THEN BEGIN GetResourceString(s, 600, 317); AlrtDialog(Concat(s, Chr(13), ' And now?')); END ELSE BEGIN GetResourceString(s, 600, 86); AlrtDialog(Concat(s, Chr(13), ' Just joking. LOL!')); GetResourceString(s, 4501, i+1); {GetResourceString(s, 11004, i);} { the strings 11004 would be better, load the IP resources if you wish them } AlrtDialog(Concat(s)); END; END; Run(xxxxx);

Always contains a Record instance (48) .
- To get a handle to the Record Definition call it by name....
h := GetObject('myRecName'); AlrtDialog(Concat(GetType(h))); { 47 }
If the record definition is hidden, the parent is User Data (76) and further finally Data (57). Hidden records are only to be retrived through the Name List. For example, supposing that NNAcartoon is the 6th name in the Name List:
hiddenRecName := NameList(6); { --> 'NNAcartoon' } { THIS DOESN'T WORK: } hiddenRecName := GetName(GetRecord(Obj, i); { no result } RecListID := BuildResourceList(47, 0, '', totCnt); { 0 } { This will return 0 even if you know you have at least the wall style hidden rec. } hiddenRecName := GetActualNameFromResourceList(RecListID, i); { no result } hiddenRecName := GetNameFromResourceList(RecListID, i); { no result }

- Note
- The routine GetPluginInfo will always return a handle to the Record Instance (48). If you wish to reset the default values in tools or commands, use GetObject, thus you can access the type 47.

Reference list if you have references to other files in the document. To your knowledge, this list is always positioned between the Symbol List (54) and Hatch List (65). So one way to access it (if it exists) is to fetch a Symbol Definiton (16), get its parent (54), and from there do PrevObj until you get object type 88. Or fetch a Hatch Definition (66), fetch its parent Hatch List (65) and do NextObj until you find type 88.

A symbol folder can be nested, so while it will always have a parent 54, it can also have a number of parents 92.
Placing a symbol definition ( 16) or a symbol folder ( 92) into another symbol folder ( 92) is easy, use InsertSymbolInFolder(foldH, symDefH). But extracting a symbol definition from a symbol folder back to the root level is not an obvious procedure. The routine below will get that done:
{ ************************************************ } { bring a symbol definition nested in a sym folder to the root level OR another folder } { pass an empty string to bring a sym back to the root level } PROCEDURE Res_SymDefToRootLevel(symDefH : HANDLE; newFolderName: STRING); CONST foldN = 'SDFU7****#++++?'; VAR foldH : HANDLE; BEGIN IF GetType(symDefH) = 16 THEN BEGIN { creates a folder, it automatically goes in root level } IF (newFolderName = '') & (GetType(GetParent(symDefH)) <> 54) THEN BEGIN newFolderName := foldN; NameObject(newFolderName); BeginFolder; EndFolder; END; foldH := GetObject(newFolderName); { insert the target symbol into it } IF foldH <> NIL THEN InsertSymbolInFolder(foldH, symDefH); { remove the temp folder, the target sym remains } IF newFolderName = foldN THEN HUngroup(foldH); END; END;--orso 01:06, 7 June 2007 (PDT)

Please note the last item above: by creating an image in the resources the 119 is not only attribute object but also container: a container 119 with an attribute also 119. This container is named while all other attribute instances obviously are not.
